The Ultimate Luxury Staycation in The UK – Langdale Chase Hotel

As someone who enjoys some quiet time I also quite enjoy the finer things in life. When I stumbled across Langdale Chase Hotel I just knew it was the perfect balance between two. Boasting six acres of landscaped gardens, sloping to the shores of Lake Windermere, the Langdale Chase Hotel offers a luxurious homely getaway with breath taking views. It was originally built as a private house in the late 19th century and was converted into a hotel in 1930. It’s truly a space fit for a king, with that being said, the hotel has in fact hosted many notable figures including Agatha Christie, Prince Phillip and King Charles.

Rooms

As a dog mom I’m always looking for dog friendly stays. I was honestly lost for words when I walked into my room and saw all the little touches added for my fur baby. From the cosy dog bed to the personalized dog treats and dog room service menu, they’ve got everything you need and more.

There are 30 rooms in total with 5 of them being dog friendly, one of which is the beautiful suite we stayed in. Each room is decorated to accentuate the building’s original features and have unique quirks such as an outdoor copper bath, secret wardrobe bathroom doors and cosy reading nooks overlooking the lake. If you’re someone looking for more of a private stay and intimate experience, you can stay in the historic Boathouse. It is set apart from the main house and has a private waterside position and a suite that offers a wraparound balcony and rooftop terrace with panoramic views across the lake. Need I say more!

Food & Drink

If there’s one thing Langdale Chase will never do is leave you going hungry. Executive Chef Michael Cole heads up Langdale Chase’s two AA Rosette food offering which includes a seasonal menu as well as a wide range of signature comfort dishes which we had the pleasure of enjoying in the lounge. This was perfect for us as it was a dog friendly space that truly felt like home. However, if you’re after more of a formal dining experience Langdale Chase has you covered with the main dining room. It features panoramic views of the lake and surrounding fells. There is also the option of dining on the terrace in the warmer months.

Oh and if you thought that was it, you’re wrong. Langdale Chase offers afternoon tea that is inspired by the beautiful landscape that surrounds it. This is an experience not to be missed. I had the opportunity to indulge in the finest Cumbrian clotted cream and Scottish strawberry jams not to forget the traditional savouries and delicious fancies! Mmm it was the gift that kept on giving.

Things to do

At Langdale Chase you can either kick back and relax (like I did) or you can plan an adventurous itinerary with the help of a member of staff during your stay. Here are some of the many fun things you can do whilst visiting.

Cinema room

With a selection of films playing daily, you have the choice of unwinding in the cosy cinema room. Order your snacks and drinks, then just sit back and relax.

Wine cellar

If wine tasting is your thing or you’re just looking to find the perfect wine to pair with your evening meal then take a trip to the private wine cellar. There’s plenty of options to tantalize your taste buds.

Walks/ Trip to Ambleside

Being in the lakes has its advantages, mainly the thousands of miles of walks exploring hidden gems from waterfalls to caves or quaint towns such as Ambleside. Whether you’re wanting coffee and cake overlooking the beautiful scenery or fancy a spot of shopping in the town center, Ambleside has something to offer for everyone.

Boat trip

Take to the open water on one of the many ferries that run across the lake or if you want more extravagance, you can enquire about the Albatross (not pictured), a boat built in Germany in 1928 that has been restored and made available for guests at Langdale Chase to charter for their own private experience.

Lake swimming

For some this could be very season dependent, for others it could be the perfect thrill. Take a plunge in the lake with the support of local guides to take your experience to the next level.
